"More
than once I've had elderly Indians come up to me and say that they heard no western influence in my playing, which to me is a great compliment that I savor for a moment, then hand over to my Guruji."

CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA'S ONLY INDIAN WEDDING TEAM
FEATURING... LIVE SITAR AND AUTHENTIC DJ SERVICE DUO
B.R.P. Entertainment's sitarist plays many functions for the
Indian communities in Pennsylvania and the surrounding coastal states including
private parties, corporate receptions and traditional
weddings.
Musical selections are chosen for the appropriate setting,
featuring serious ragas like Malkauns, Bhimpalasi and Bhairavi,
to those with a devotional reflective nature such as Yaman,
Desh, Bagesrhi, including many Dhuns and ragas played in a
light classical style such as Khamaj, Jhinjoti, Bhupali and
Hansadvani.
For Indian weddings, Steve usually plays light classical sitar
pieces for an uplifting feel to the occasion. He has been hired to
play various parts of the wedding function including guest
arrivals, cocktail hour, dinner hour, and parts of the
ceremony. He can perform with a tabla player if requested.
"It is always such a joy to play for the Indian community.
They are always warm , gracious and appreciative, and they can
tell I have a deep respect for the purity of the music." said
Steve. "More than once I've had elderly Indians come up to me
and say that they heard no western influence in my playing,
which to me is a great compliment that I savor for a moment,
then hand over to my Guruji."
Steve's sitars are made by Radhey Shyam Sharma and brothers,
Luxmi Kund, Varanasi. His teacher has a special relationship
with Radhey Shyam and buys sitars there exclusively. One was
presented to Steve by his teacher after four years of study.
His teacher had the craftsman disassemble it in the shop for
easier shipping (he was already up to capacity for the
airline), and then reglued the neck and tabli over a weekend.
It came out perfectly. It has a deep red stain and is highly
decorated. Steve keeps this sitar in his working line up of instruments.
Another favorite is the Vilyat Khan model which is less
decorative and is strung in a way that Vilyat Khan invented.
It is stained so dark, it appears to be black and it is so
polished almost to a mirror finish. It also has ebony bridges
instead of bone, and has a relatively closed jivari as Steve
prefers. Steve also prefers sitars of the single gourd type.
